Morning Sessions: Baker's Dozen

I have been trying to get this particular photo session under way for quite some time now. My friend Pam and I had been trying to get together on the days that she bakes so that I could get some shots of her during her everyday life. Finally I was able to spend the morning with her as she baked loads of goodies for Credo which included a braided cinnamon loaf, blueberry glazed scones, gluten free cookies, and coffee cake. Here are just some images of how the morning transpired. Yes, my stomach was envious of what my eyes could see. :)

When I had first met Pam we met at church and unbeknownst to me she was working at a shop called Blue Bird Bake Shop and they made these brownies that I was UB-SESSED with! You know the kind of treat that has you thinking about the taste of it for so long that the only way to appease the taste in your mouth is to just go and have it.

On the particular day that I had first entered into Blue Bird Bake Shop, I was browsing the selection and came across a brownie that had salted caramel in it. S A L T E D CARAMEL PEOPLE! I can't make that stuff up, but Blue Bird can. I had it and that was it! I was now slightly infatuated with the taste of the salted caramel inside of the cake like brownie. I had a tendency of craving the little delectable whenever the shop was closed for the day, but miraculously, Ms. Pam brought me a treat one day to church. It was a huge chunk of the salted caramel brownie.

Since that moment we have stayed connected as friends. I have been intrigued by her knowledge of baking, and her craft in baking and cooking. She now works temporarily for Blue Bird, full time baker for Downtown Credo, and starting up a composting business with a couple of friends called Fork to Spade.

Also a little treat for you. A music video from Jubal's Kin:

LIFE | Christmas with the Klemusch Family

Christmas day I spent with Jess and her family. The atmosphere was quite different than the one at the Richerts' only because most of Jess's older siblings are married and do not live at home, so its more like a reunion. The men talked about cars, the women helped Mama Klemusch in the kitchen with last minute dishes, and Jess made the last few touches on her gingerbread house. Presents were a combination of store bought items, homemade treats, and chocolate. They really do love chocolate.

FOODIES | Breakfast in Bremen

I had held off on shopping because the one place I wanted to shop at was Primark and that was in Bremen. Jess's sister Nelly lived near there and so we would stay the night with her and then head back the following evening.

PLACES | Sennastadt

After we arrived in Bielefeld, Laura's brother Mark picked us up and took us to their abode in Sennastadt. Very quaint town that is minutes from the Autobahn. Everything from drug stores to cafes and bakeries are all within walking distance, and if we needed to get to the city, buses are always passing through every 10 minutes to get you to the tram center. Berlin wiped me out so instead of going to Cologne with Angelika, I rested for the next few days, and even took a photography class on studio lighting and Laura's school.

Oh the Places You Will Go | Berlin Part 3

Last on our stop before heading back to Bielefeld (and then Laura, Jessica, and I to Sennastadt) were the Brandenburger Tor, which is an 18th century city gate, the Reichstag, and the Berlin wall. We had no idea we had passed the wall the day before as the streets were more crowded and I even made a fuss about there being a random cement panel obstructing my path. That was one piece of the wall. The girls parked the car and Laura and I ran across to Postdamer Platz to take pictures of the wall and then ran back 3 blocks to the car so we could be on our way home. Because of the holidays, Berlin was more crowded then I would have liked to have been, so I don't recommend going there right before Christmas.

Oh the Places You Will Go | Berlin Part 2

We stayed at the Wittelsbach Hotel, which wasn't too far from the city driving wise. Their version of continental breakfast consisted of several kinds of fresh breads, salmon, cheeses, cereals, coffee, and fruits. So not the Holiday Inn kind of breakfast. Our first full day in Berlin was a shop day, although I didn't do much shopping. I got a better winter jacket as my coat barely warmed my arms. I mostly people watched as we power walked through the city. We wanted to go through the TV tower but with the overcast it would have been a waste of money so we had dinner in a whole in the wall place. After that we strolled through the Christmas Market there, I got 2 kinds of crepes (they pronounce it "crap" which was a hilarious misunderstanding as they would ask me if I ate "crap"): a nutella and cookie crepe and a bacon and cheese crepe. Both so excellent. We topped off our night with a movie at the "International" theater and watched The Hobbit.
